Walking on Two Balls started by carving two wooden spheres from a tree trunk. In the carving process, Input of Energy through the Physical and Mental Exercise of my body, Transformed the Material and gave the new object certain Cultural Meaning ( e.g. the sphere has become symbol of the Universe in many world cultures ). That fulfills the basic idea of traditional art making. However, to me, it should not be the final outcome.
I experienced the objects in different ways. I played with and stepped onto the balls and conquered the difficulties of the performance of Walking on Two Balls from one side of the room to the other. Balancing the Body while moving forward on the balls provided me with a Challenge. This feeling Reminded me of the Sense of Insecurity and Uncertainty experienced in Daily Life.
By recording the Performance in the form of Video, I then took myself out of the position of the Performer to enter that of the Audience. Playing Different Roles created another Dimension of Experience and suggested a Different Perspective from which to interpret the work.
I have used the images in the Video to make a Flip Book. Viewers can play with it in their hands and experience the Transformation and Interflowing of Space, Time, Matter and Energy. The whole Creative Process flows in a Circular Way, linking up the Artist, the Art work and the Viewer. Images Presented with Different Media, in Different Context constitute the meaning of the piece in various dimensions and also provide a Field of Imagination for further interpretation.
